Frequently Asked Questions

What is physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a form of health care that uses physical means (such as massage, exercise, heat or electricity) to relieve pain, rebuild muscle strength and restore range of motion. Its aim is to return the patient to their normal daily activities, following an operation, accident or other injury.

what can physiotherapy do for me?

Through careful observation and examination, a physiotherapist can assess the extent to which your movement is reduced or restricted as a result of an injury, disease or other disorder. They can then implement a treatment plan to improve your range of motion and level of function, prevent and manage any pain you may be suffering, and thus promote lasting fitness and health. A physiotherapist can also increase your education and awareness... helping you avoid the need for future trips to the clinic!

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

No, you do not need a doctor’s referral for physiotherapy. However, your insurance company may require one before they will reimburse you for any physiotherapy treatment (see your individual policy).

How quickly will I be seen for my first appointment?

We will make every effort to book you an appointment at Advantage Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation within 24 hours.

What should I expect on my first visit?

On arrival you will be asked to complete several intake forms, which include a brief medical questionnaire. You will then undergo a thorough assessment of your condition, which will be carried out by a registered physiotherapist.

What does an assessment involve?

The physiotherapist will start by reviewing your medical history and asking questions regarding your current concerns. The physical part of the assessment will include observations of your posture, movement and any physical abnormalities. It will also comprise a hands-on examination of the areas affected by, or responsible for, your condition.
Following the assessment, the physiotherapist will explain your condition to you and determine a treatment plan specific to your needs.

Do you treat lower back pain?
